COMPANY FORMATION IN QATAR
There are currently four commonly used ways for a foreign entity to have a presence in Qatar;
Limited Liability Company(LLC)
This is the most commonly used legal structure in Qatar and provides that the company must be owned 51% by a Qatari partner or partners. On formation, the LLC can trade freely in the State of Qatar.
Trade Representative Office
This structure, is commonly referred to as a ‘shop window’, a company can establish itself as a 100% foreign owned entity but cannot conduct any commercial activity in Qatar. The purpose is to show the products or services of the company.
Branch Offices can only be established when the company has a contract in Qatar which “facilitates the performance of a public service or utility”. This does not allow for the foreign company to conduct commercial activity that is not related to the contract. Foreign companies registered under this category do not need a sponsor or Service agent.
