Qatar ranks top ten in Economic Performance and The Population Continues to grow
Qatar has gained some of the top ranks in the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2017.
Ranking 8th in economic performance, 11th in government efficiency and 12th in terms of efficiency of the business sector, while ranking 38th in the infrastructure sector.
Qatar ranked an overall 17th out of a total of 63 mostly developed countries, according to the Yearbook.
This ranking indicates the strong performance that continues to be achieved at various levels. Qatar’s ranking was positively impacted by many factors, including: strong economic performance represented by low unemployment rate, high fixed capital formation ratio of GDP, domestic savings ratio of GDP, trade balance ratio of GDP, and overall productivity increase.
Also, for the first time, Qatar's population has reached the 2.7million mark.
Information provided by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) says that as per the latest figures, the population went up by nearly 0.9%, compared to the April figure of 2,675,522.
At the end of May 31, 2016, the country had approximately 2,587,000 residents, which was 28,000 more than the previous month's 2,559,000.
From the end of June, the population will fall until September as a considerable number of expatriates will plan to travel on vacation. Schools closed at the end of June and many residents began to escape the summer heat. Last year, almost 110,000 residents travelled out of the country during June on vacation, according to the MDPS statistics.
